1) Freeze Dried Garlic is too expensive :: We get it we have to budget too. But if you compare our freeze dried garlic to fresh garlic it really isn't that much more expensive. Then take into account that it is shelf stable for 25 years and, if you are like me, throwing out farmers market delicious garlic that you completely forgot was in the back of the pantry leaves an ache in your heart and a hole in your pocketbook. Also... food prices are on the rise so buying shelf stable products now may actually save you money in the future.
2) Not certified organic :: We are not certified organic yet. But we are a zero spray biodynamic farm. What does this mean? We do not use any chemical or organic farm approved sprays on our crop - ZERO spray. We use Gaia Green Fertilizer that was blended specifically to balance our farm's soil needs. And man can you taste the difference! We also use a thick application of wood chips to keep the weeds at bay and other than that we hand pick the weeds. At harvest we hang our crop out of the sun to dry out naturally and do not spray it with any preserving agents. From our farm to your table we treat this crop with pride of growth and are excited to feed it to our family and yours!
3) Shipping is too expensive :: You brought this up and couldn't agree more. So... we now offer a $12 flat fee for shipping across Canada and if you order more that $100 worth of product we ship it to you for free!
4) Why freeze dried and not fresh? :: We love fresh but don't love stinky hands, the extra time prepping the food, the cleanup and the spoilage that happens if you leave the garlic for too long on the counter or in the pantry. So... we found a long term storage solution that does not sacrifice much (a measley 2% of nutritional loss from fresh) nutritional value. We love the fresh taste we are able to have year round and that we are not buying Chinese garlic in the winter months anymore.
5) Why freeze dried and not dehydrated? :: Dehyrated garlic has a lot of water in it (you are paying for this) which makes it heavier, has a shelf life of only 3-5 years, and loses up to 60% of its original nutrient quality, doesn't taste as fresh or as potent as freeze dried garlic. If you love the taste of fresh garlic then you will need to use a lot more dehydrated garlic to get the same great taste you get from freeze dried.
