How to make Immune Boosting Honey Garlic
Cold and flus are upon us... as is Covid-19 Corona Virus which is terrifying the public which is why immunity is at the forefront of our minds. Did you know that in your kitchen you probably have some immune boosting ingredients that you can use to ward off these viruses? Honey and garlic are immune boosting on their own but when you combine the two they pack a punch... plus they don't have crazy ingredients you can't spell let alone pronounce so making it yourself for honey garlic chicken wings is also an excellent choice!
The Health Benefits of Garlic
Garlic is a culinary herb that is used to enhance flavor and is a cooks dream. It is a commonly used culinary herb and garlic consumption is growing at a rapid rate throughout North America… no doubt due to the benefits that far exceed the flavor. Garlic has been shown to reduce and prevent the four major causes of death, including heart disease and cancer. Its benefits are broad and diverse and affect nearly every tissue and system in the body. Pretty Cool!!
We have a garlic farm so we definitely consume a lot of garlic… and I mean A LOT of garlic. But is also a great remedy for many different common ailments… got a cold? Eat some raw garlic or honey garlic if you can’t tolerate raw. Ear infection? A couple drops of garlic oil in the ear will work magic. Sinus Infection? Garlic. Heart issues? Garlic pills or garlic daily. Candida? You guessed it… garlic. Guests that exceed their welcome? Garlic breath baby!
Garlic is a natural antibiotic, and when consumed regularly is known to keep illnesses at bay due to its high level of sulfer and allicin (the immune boosting component in garlic). Want your garlic to pack more of a punch? Chop the garlic and let it sit for 10 minutes on the counter before you use it… this boosts the allicin content in the garlic. The sulfer compounds in the garlic has effects at each stage of cancer formation, reverses early heart disease by removing plaque buildup, lowers cholesterol, controls high blood pressure, treats colds and infections and so much more. It has powerful anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties and is one of the cheapest and most accessible natural remedies.
Raw garlic is the best but in the winter months most of the raw garlic products in Canada are Chinese in origin which has a host of issues including being grown in depleted and contaminated soil, being heavily sprayed and bleached before hitting the grocery store shelves. So we created a Canadian, shelf stable product to fix this problem which maintains 98% of original nutritional benefits… freeze dried garlic to the rescue! Our freeze dried garlic is chopped and left out for 10 minutes before it is freeze dried which boosts the allicin levels of the garlic, which equals more immune boosting properties. Garlic needs to be chopped, minced or crushed to convert the sulfer to allicin…. Which we have already done for you in both our freeze dried garlic chunks and our garlic powder plus (which is why we think ours deserves a plus in the name).
Raw chopped garlic taken internally is rough on the guts. But it does work quickly and efficiently to boost your immunity and kill pathogens. I prefer to take mine daily in the form of honey garlic when I see a cold coming but my husband is way tougher than I am and is a true, blue chew the raw garlic kind of guy.
The Health Benefits of Local Raw Honey
Raw honey is full of enzymes, vitamins, minerals and is an antioxidant that fights off free radicals in the body. If you are keto... you may have fear of sugar but even Dave Asprey of Bulletproof recommends having a tablespoon of raw honey before bed to enhance your sleep. It also packs a punch with the amount of nutrients in just one tablespoon. Because of these nutrients it does not spike the blood sugar like refined sugars will. Nature in its finest!
It is very important that you buy local and raw honey. The reason you want local is that it will have bits of pollen from your local area that will help to boost your local immunity to those allergens which can bring down the immune system. Also raw honey is key because by heating the honey (and often watering it down) we kill the enzymes which makes the honey less nutritious and will spike the blood sugar more like a refined sugar. If you don't get the nutrients you lost the medicinal benefits of eating the honey.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN HONEY GARLIC ::
2 Ingredient Honey Garlic Recipe ::
1 cup container (preferably glass)
1 ounce freeze dried garlic (or fresh but with fresh you will have to burp the jar due to the water content in the garlic)
1 cup of raw, local honey
Directions:
Mix the two together and let it sit on the counter for a few weeks to 6 months. You can strain out the garlic chunks if you would like but I like mine chunky so I leave them in there. Add this and the juice of 1 lemon to make an immune or cold busting tea, or use on chicken wings, or literally any recipe calling for honey garlic. The comparable honey garlic from superstore had the following ingredients…
Water, sugar, soy sauce (water, wheat, soybeans, salt, sodium benzoate), honey, white vinegar, modified corn starch, garlic, brown sugar, salt, rice vinegar (water, rice), canola oil, citric acid, natural flavour, xanthan gum, potassium sorbate, garlic powder, caramel colour, mustard flour, spices.
I like my products to be immune and health boosting without any negative side-effects so I make it from scratch and it took about 2 minutes so don’t go telling me you don’t have time for that! Then let it sit for a week or two and it is ready to use and oh-so-delicious! Please let us know when you make this recipe by tagging us on instagram or shouting us a message on facebook.
